With their season on the line at Wrigley Field, the San Diego Padres are turning to a playoff veteran in Yu Darvish to try and advance to the NLDS.
While the 39 year old hasn’t been the best version of himself this season – bringing a career-worst 5.38 ERA in 15 starts with him to the postseason – he’s been nails in his playoff appearances with the Padres.
Darvish has taken the mound six times in October for San Diego, posting a 2.56 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 38 ⅓ innings. He got the ball in the Game 5 of the 2024 NLDS against the rival-Dodgers, giving the Padres a legit chance by getting into the seventh inning and allowing just two runs. San Diego fans will hope that if they get a similar outing from Darvish in Game 3 of the Wild Card against the Cubs, their offense will be able to pull their weight this time around.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Darvish has been a dominant pitcher at times in his career, recording four 200-strikeout seasons and leading all of MLB with 277 in 2013. With that being said, can you name the pitchers to lead the American and National Leagues in strikeouts each season since 2000?
Good luck!
