Some of the biggest names in baseball have signed up to compete in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, and two more have committed to join the Team USA pitching staff. San Diego Padres lockdown closer Mason Miller and back-to-back American League Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal will both wear the Stars and Stripes for manager Mark DeRosa this February.
While Miller has been a dominant reliever over the past couple of seasons, Skubal has been downright special. Since 2024, Skubal has posted ERA’s of 2.39 and 2.21, both of which led the American League, and he’s struck out a combined 469 batters in 384 ⅓ innings. He’s also shown he can pitch in big games, striking out 36 and allowing just four earned runs in three starts in the 2025 postseason.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Skubal’s 228 strikeouts in 2024 were the most in all of Major League Baseball. With that being said, can you name the pitcher to lead each league in strikeouts since 2000?
Good luck!
