The Angels Are Heating Up Way Too Late

The Los Angeles Angels have won four straight games.

They managed to sweep the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend and defeat the New York Yankees last night in game one of their three-game set.

That’s a sign of progress, right?

After so many struggles, the Angels could be heating up.

Well, not quite.

The Angels have pretty much already dug themselves a hole too big to climb out of.

Even four straight wins against top-tier teams isn’t going to help them at this point.

The Angels may finally be winning some games again, but the fact of the matter is, it’s too late, and Sam Blum of The Athletic explains why.

Halos Heating Up Too Late

At 56-73, all hope appears to be lost for the Halos to even finish remotely close to .500.

That would give them their seventh consecutive losing season, as they have not finished above .500 since 2015, when they went 85-77.

They also have yet to reach the postseason since 2014.

Basically, for this win streak to ignite any hope for the Angels, they would need to essentially win all of their remaining games.

At this point, that is virtually impossible.

The Angels have dug themselves a massive hole and they don’t have any hope of coming out of it.

At this point, the best they can do is get the most out of Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout for the rest of this season and then focus on 2023 and beyond.

2022 is a wash at this point.

As Blum points out, the Halos are simply heating up too late in the season.

The damage has already been done and there’s no way to undo it.

Their 14-game losing skid in May and June took them out of contention and they still have yet to recover from it.
