The Diamondbacks Remain In A Frustrating Position
Joe Rondone/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

There are some bright spots emerging for the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks that could ignite some hope for the future, but that won’t help them this year.

With their 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies’ 1-0 win over the Atlanta Braves, the Diamondbacks were officially eliminated from postseason contention and will miss the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season.

Though Zac Gallen may have thrown the game of his life, it couldn’t save the D’Backs from their ultimate fate.

At 70-81, they have 11 games to go, and it would take winning them all to even finish at .500.

There isn’t much to be excited about if you’re a Snakes fan.

Snakes Eliminated

The Diamondbacks last reached the postseason in 2017 as the first NL Wild Card team.

They won the Wild Card Game, but were swept by the Dodgers in the NLDS.

Since then, there hasn’t been much to write home about.

Once again, Arizona fans will have a quiet October in terms of baseball.

The good thing for them is, it’s football season, and they’ll have the Arizona Cardinals to cheer for.

But as far as the Snakes go, this is a team that is stuck in a dreadful rebuilding period.

After three straight winning seasons, it looked as if the D’Backs were ready to contend again when they signed Madison Bumgarner and Starling Marte.

But their window shut pretty fast and now they find themselves out of the playoff hunt for the fifth straight year.

Is there some hope for the future?

Yes.

Gallen is an exciting young pitcher who is in contention for the NL Cy Young Award.

Beyond that, there isn’t really anything else for them to be excited about.
