The Los Angeles Dodgers’ busy off-season continues.

On Monday evening, the Dodgers traded Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds for a Competitive Balance Round A draft pick and an outfield prospect named Mike Sirota.

Lux was once a top prospect but struggled in his first three seasons of regular MLB action. The 2022 season was his breakout, as he slashed .276/.346/.399 with six home runs in 471 plate appearances for a 113 wRC+ and a 2.7 fWAR. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending injury in the 2023 Spring Training, missing the entire season.

The 27-year-old returned in 2024, slashing .251/.320/.383 with 10 home runs in 487 plate appearances, posting a 100 wRC+ and a 1.5 fWAR with the Dodgers. In the postseason, he slashed .176/.286/.294 with one home run in 43 plate appearances as the Dodgers won their fourth World Series in franchise history.

This isn’t the first time the Dodgers have expressed an interest in Sirota. Back in 2021, they drafted him out of high school in the 16th round, but he elected to attend Northeastern University. In his three seasons there, he slashed .324/.458/.577 with 29 home runs in 685 plate appearances, leading to the Reds picking him in the third round of the 2024 draft. The outfielder has yet to make his professional debut.

Additionally, the Dodgers will receive a draft pick, that may fall anywhere from the 35th overall to the 40th overall pick. Most of the time, draft picks aren’t allowed to be traded, but only ones that cane be are the Competitive Balance draft picks given to certain teams. Funnily enough, this will be their highest pick in the draft as their first-round pick was pushed back 10 picks due to a tax penalty.

On paper, the Dodgers have gotten worse, at least for now. Still, they have a ton of firepower, re-signing Teoscar Hernández, adding Michael Conforto, and even picking up an ace in Blake Snell. Who knows what’s next for the Dodgers?
