The 'Gold Glove and Silver Slugger seasons' quiz

Happy 54th birthday to three-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, Jason Varitek!

Varitek played his entire 15-year career with the Boston Red Sox, and was a participant in some of the most iconic moments in the historic Yankees/Red Sox rivalry. After watching Aaron Boone hit the Game 7 walk-off home run in the 2003 ALCS, Varitek was a key piece of the Red Sox coming back from down 3-0 in the 2004 ALCS and delivering Boston their first World Series since 1918 – ending the infamous “Curse of the Bambino.”

That same season, he and Alex Rodriguez got into a memorable brawl after A-Rod was hit by a pitch. 

When Varitek retired after 2011, he’d ranked second all-time in hits (1,307), RBIs (757) and home runs (193) by a Boston catcher, adding a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger to his trophy case as well.
