The Tampa Bay Rays scored just one run in their Postseason opener in the ALDS against the New York Yankees.
Fortunately for Tampa Bay fans, Drew Rasmussen was on the mound for the Rays.
Coming off of his second-straight All-Star season, the seventh-year Big Leaguer defused the Bronx Bombers with eight shoutout innings, racking up 10 strikeouts and holding the Yankees hitless through 7 2/3 innings in the 1-0 Game 1 victory.
Outside of one bad inning against New York this season in which he allowed six runs, Rasmussen has been a Yankee killer so far in his career. Other than his blowup on July 9, Rasmussen had never allowed more than two runs in a single start against New York and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against them back in April.
The A.L. East rivals return to action on Monday night, with trade deadline acquisition Freddy Peralta taking on the likely Cy Young winner in Cam Schlittler.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Rasmussen became the first Ray with at least 10 strikeouts in a postseason contest since Tyler Glasnow punched out 10 Yankees in Game 2 of the 2020 ALDS, a series Tampa Bay went on to win. With that being said, can you name the most recent pitcher to record 10 strikeouts in an MLB Playoff game for each franchise?
Good luck!
