The Boston Red Sox dug themselves into quite a hole to start the 2026 season, but are heading in the right direction as we hit the All-Star break.
Boston has won nine in a row and 14 of their last 16 starting with a four-game sweep over the New York Yankees in June. While they’re still 10-games behind Tampa Bay in the American League East, they’ve moved to within 0.5-games of the final A.L. Wild Card spot after completing a road trip 9-0 for the first time since 1977.
The Red Sox have gotten it done with both good hitting and pitching, with All-Star snub Sonny Gray leading the way for the starting rotation. The 14-year veteran is 11-1 so far in his first season with Boston, and in their recent hot streak has gone at least six-innings with just two-combined earned runs dating back to his start against the Yankees on June 28.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Coming off of back-to-back 200-strikeout seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Gray is doing his part to return to the MLB playoffs for the first time since 2023 with the Minnesota Twins. With that being said, can you name the most recent pitcher to strike out 200 batters in a season for each MLB franchise?
Good luck!
