Chris Sale might be 37 years old and in his 16th Major League season, but the future Hall of Famer turned in a vintage performance against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 2024 National League Cy Young winner twirled a complete game shutout against the World Series favorites, striking out 11 and allowing just five hits to finish off the three-game sweep. The effort was Sale’s first complete game shutout since 2019 with the Boston Red Sox and in the process he reached 100 mph for the first time since 2018.
With the Atlanta Braves trying to hold off the Philadelphia Phillies in the N.L. East race, a four-game win streak including the sweep of the defending champions have helped them open back up a five-game lead in the division. With 28 games remaining for Atlanta – seven of which are against Philly – it could be a mad dash to the finish line.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Sale is one of the best strikeout pitchers of his generation – if not baseball history – recording at least 200 strikeouts eight times, leading his league in Ks three times and all of baseball in 2017 with 308. With that being said, can you name the league-leaders in strikeouts for each season since 2000?
Good luck!
