What did Mr. Met ever do to anybody?
As the New York Metropolitans prepare for another year of spring training ahead of the 2025 season, their new hats appear to have rubbed WFAN's Gregg Giannotti the wrong way.
On Tuesday morning's rant, the NYC-based radio host claimed the Mets' offseason hats are so ugly that they turn the team into a "joke again" and cancel out the excitement for Juan Soto's arrival in Queens.
"These hats that they're wearing — I think they make them look like a rinky-dink team," Giannotti argued. "With the Mr. Met and the orange hat. Like, I'm sorry. I love the Mets. I grew up a huge Mets fan… I just don't want it to look like a cartoon, minor league team."
Gio hates how the Mets spring training hats put a damper on Juan Soto's arrival and make the team look like a "joke again."

"When Juan Soto came out as a Yankee in spring training, you were like 'Oooooh.' He comes out here; he puts on a Mr. Met with sunglasses and a hat that's orange. It looks like we're a joke again. Like, just have the regular hats. I'm sorry."
"This is the thing that we've been trying to shake for the longest time, being the little [brother]," he concluded. "You've got this player for three-quarters of a billion dollars, and the first day he's out there, and you're all excited to see him, and he puts on that silly [expletive] hat. It just feels weird."
It's a little weird that Giannotti is so worked up about this. Especially since 1: it's not the hat that they'll be wearing during the regular season. And 2: they seem to be a hit with fans.
The Mets have always had a less corporate feel than their crosstown rival and it's part of why they're so beloved by people who were born and raised in the Big Apple.
There's nothing wrong with having a little fun in Port St. Lucie. And hopefully there'll be even more fun to be had when the Amazins start winning games when it counts.
