The Mets Find A Silver Lining After Losing The Division
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

After holding a 10.5-game lead over the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves in the NL East, the New York Mets were unable to hold on.

The Braves got hot and took it from the Metropolitans, who will now enter the postseason as the top Wild Card team.

The Braves clinched their fifth straight NL East title with a win last night in Miami.

But there is one silver lining for the Mets.

Despite them losing out on the NL East title, they have reached the 100-win mark for the first time since 1988.

This is also the fourth time the Mets have reached 100 wins in their franchise history.

Mets Reach 100 Wins

That is one silver lining that can be found after the Mets went into a bit of a tailspin.

This has been their best season in quite some time.

They haven’t reached the postseason since 2016, when they got knocked out by the San Francisco Giants in the Wild Card Game.

They still will be forced to deal with the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card Series, and that will be no easy task, especially when there was a much more favorable alternative, which would have been them winning the East and forcing the Braves into the Wild Card Series.

Either way, this has been a good season for the Mets, and that’s something they haven’t experienced in a long time.

Still, it would’ve have been better if they could have won the NL East instead of being knocked into the Wild Card round.

We’ll see how they fare against the Padres.

The good thing is they’ll have Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom lined up for the first two games, if that’s the direction they choose to go.
