The 'MLB 3,000-hit club' quiz

Happy 81st birthday to 18-time MLB All-Star, seven-time batting champion, 1967 Rookie of the Year and 1977 American League MVP, Rod Carew!

Carew made his MLB debut in 1967 with the Minnesota Twins, going 0-for-2 in two at-bats on April 11, 1967 against the Orioles. While he didn’t get a hit on that particular day, he would go on to become one of the most prolific contact hitters in history. 

He played the first 12 years of his career with the Twins, where his career-.334 average is the highest in franchise history and he owns the single-season hit record for a Twin with his 239 in 1977. He posted a .300 batting average in a staggering 15-consecutive campaigns from 1969-83, playing in fewer than 100 games just twice in that stretch. 

He played the final seven years of his career with the then-California Angels before retiring after the 1985 season. Despite racking up 3,053 hits, 445 doubles, 112 triples and 1,015 RBI, he hit just 92 home runs in his career, recording double-digit homers just twice.
