New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger is a former Rookie of the Year and National League Most Valuable Player, but hadn’t made the MLB All-Star Game since his MVP campaign in 2019.
In his return to the Midsummer Classic, he gave the American League an early 2-0 lead with a single off Cristopher Sanchez – an advantage that 11 A.L. pitchers would combine to hold and send Bellinger home with MVP honors.
Ben Rice joined Bellinger with an RBI single of his own in the next at-bat – making them the second pair of teammates with first-inning ASG RBI per OptaSTATS – and White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas hit an eighth-inning dinger to power the A.L. to a 4-0 win.
Bellinger had a solid first season in the Bronx in 2025, hitting .272 with 29 home runs, 98 RBI and finishing the year with 5.0 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) to earn a five-year, $162.5 million contract this offseason. With Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton both missing significant time once again for the Bronx Bombers this season, that deal is proving crucial for the volatile Yankee lineup.
