Being named a starting pitcher at the All-Star Game is still considered an honor every season, and this year there are two first-timers.
American League and Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider will trot out his ace in Dylan Cease in his first-ever Midsummer Classic appearance, while Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts will roll with Cristopher Sanchez of the host Philadelphia Phillies.
Cease is in his first season with Toronto and currently leads the American League with 148 strikeouts in 98 1/3 innings to go with a 2.56 ERA. Sanchez, meanwhile, set a Phillies record earlier this year by going 50 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. He also threw a complete game shutout against the Pirates in May and has recorded 144 Ks of his own.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the pitchers to start the MLB All-Star Game for each league since 2000 can you name in six minutes?
Good luck!
