The 'MLB Comeback Player of the Year award winners' quiz

The Boston Red Sox haven’t been very good so far in the 2025 season, but one bright spot has been starting pitcher Garrett Crochet. Boston’s newly-acquired ace has a 2.35 ERA and leads the American League with 110 strikeouts in 88 innings across 14 starts. Three of those strikeouts came against Aaron Judge in the Red Sox 10-7 win over the Yankees on Saturday as Crochet became the youngest Red Sock to record 30 K’s over three starts in franchise history. 

“It was cool,” Crochet said after the game in which he allowed five runs on six hits with nine strikeouts over six innings. “Outside of three or four pitches, I feel like my line didn’t reflect how I threw the ball tonight. I got my feet wet in the first rivalry game I’ve been a part of.”

Which brings us to today’s quiz. After Tommy John surgery cost Crochet the 2022 season and limited him to just 12.2 innings in 2023, Crochet pitched his way into a trade from Chicago to Boston (and a big new contract) and American League Comeback Player of the Year honors.
