With bad weather expected tonight in Cleveland, the Guardians and Rays got thrown a curveball of their own with Game 3 of the ALCS moved to 1:00 EST. Cleveland looks to take a 2-1 series over the team that finished with the most wins in the American League by trotting out the AL’s 2026 strikeout-leader in Gavin Williams.
Willaims kept up his whiff-inducing ways in the ALDS against Chicago, striking out 24 White Sox in 11 2/3 innings across three appearances (two starts).
With starting pitchers being notorious creatures of habit, it will be interesting to see how the fourth-year Big Leaguer responds to a sudden change to his routine as he prepares to face a team that struck out the fewest times in all of baseball this season. Williams has seen the Rays once this season, allowing just an unearned run and five hits while punching-out nine all the way back in April.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Williams is the first Guardian to lead the American League in strikeouts since the COVID-shortened 2020 season. With that being said, can you name every league-leader in strikeouts since 2000?
Good luck!
