While Paul Skenes is the Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher that gets the spotlight, fellow starter Mitch Keller is also having a very strong season for the woeful Pirates. Keller has made 20 starts this season with a 3.48 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 119 innings this year. He also went into the All-Star break on a heater, with a 1.96 ERA and just .85 WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched) in his last six starts.
The seven-year veteran should garner plenty of trade deadline interest, and is reportedly being targeted by the very pitching-needy New York Yankees. The Yankees are still without 2024 A.L. Rookie of the Year winner Luis Gil, and won’t have the services of either Gerrit Cole or Clarke Schmidt at all this year. Keller is a savvy starter with multiple years of team control left on his contract, something that makes him an attractive target for Yankees general manager Brian Cashman.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Keller proved in 2024 that not only can he give a team a quality start, he can give them a long one as well by pitching an increasingly-rare complete game. With that being said, can you name every MLB pitcher to throw a complete game in 2024?
Good luck!
