Happy 40th birthday to three-time MLB All-Star, two-time American League Cy Young winner and 2017 ERA title winner, Corey Kluber!
Kluber pitched in 13 MLB seasons, and from 2014-18 was one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball. He won his first Cy Young in 2014, leading all MLB pitchers with 8.1 WAR (wins above replacement), making 34 starts and recording 18 wins with three complete games for Cleveland. He won the award again in 2017, posting an MLB-best 2.25 ERA, 18 wins and five complete games, three of which were also shutouts.
He followed that up with a 20-win season and third-place finish in Cy Young voting, but that would be his last really productive season thanks to injuries. He bounced around from the Rangers, Yankees, Rays and Red Sox before retiring in 2024, but he got one more moment in the sun by throwing a no-hitter for the Yankees in 2021.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the pitchers to win multiple Cy Young awards in their career can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
