Happy 54th birthday to eight-time MLB National League All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger, 1999 NL MVP and 1995 World Series champion, Chipper Jones!
Jones played his entire 19-year career with the Atlanta Braves, and is one of the most beloved players in Braves history. He made his debut in 1993 but played just eight games, and he missed the entire 1994 campaign due to injury. He returned in 1995 to hit .265 with 23 home runs and 86 RBI with three triples in the regular season, adding another three home runs and 20 total hits for a .364 average in his first postseason to help the Braves to their first World Series title since moving from Milwaukee.
His best individual season came in 1999, when he hit .319 with 45 home runs, 41 doubles and 110 RBI, achieving the difficult feat of being named Most Valuable Player in a season that he didn’t make the All-Star team.
Jones played in Atlanta until 2012, when he retired with a career batting average of .303 and 2,726 hits, 468 homers and 1,632 RBI. He joined the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2018.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Jones is one of five Braves to be named NL MVP since the franchise moved to Atlanta. With that being said, can you name every player to be named National League Most Valuable Player?
Good luck!
