The Twins Made Their Collapse Official Wednesday Night

The Minnesota Twins are going home this October.

It was an interesting night for them on Wednesday.

Their 8-4 win over the Chicago White Sox made it certain that Chicago would miss the postseason.

But the Seattle Mariners, who currently hold the third AL Wild Card spot, won last night, thus also eliminating the Twins from contention.

The Twins started off the season on a good note after signing Carlos Correa and acquiring Sonny Gray and Gary Sanchez.

They led the division for much of the season.

But in August, they began to slip in the standings and ultimately watched the Cleveland Guardians bust out and take command of the Central.

Twins Fall Short

Now, the Twins will try and finish out their season and do what they can to avoid their second consecutive losing season.

Last year, they finished in last place in the AL Central with a 73-89 record.

They’ve improved upon that and won’t finish in last, but this year’s finish isn’t going to be that much better.

They tied the White Sox for second place in the Central with last night’s win.

Both teams sit at 76-79 and will wrap up their three-game set this afternoon.

The collapse was pretty catastrophic for the Twins, who had staked out a lead in the AL Central and led the division as late as July.

But of course, the season is never over until it’s over.

The Guardians took off and the Twins went south.

Now, their playoff hopes have officially been dashed.

They’ll open up a weekend series against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park, then head to Chicago for one more matchup with the White Sox to end their season.
