The White Sox Never Took The Guardians Seriously
Brian Sevald-USA TODAY Sports

An ominous trend is developing on the South Side of Chicago, as the Chicago White Sox continue to slip in the AL Central standings.

After winning the division last year with 93 victories, the South Siders have watched the Cleveland Guardians zoom past everybody else and take command of the division.

After last night’s loss, the White Sox now sit six games behind the Guardians.

Some of the White Sox players’ comments about the Guardians have gone a long way in showing that they never took Cleveland seriously.

As one MLB insider notes, both Elvis Andrus and AJ Pollock have stated that they believe the Guardians will crumble and that they’ll feel the White Sox coming for them.

South Siders Show Their Arrogance

This is not the attitude you want your players to have about teams in your division.

One would think that they’d show a little respect for the Guardians and understand that despite not being expected to do much before the season, they truly are a good team and one that cannot be taken for granted.

It’s clear that the White Sox have done just that and it’s showing in this series.

They entered the series four games behind Cleveland.

A three-game sweep would have put them within a game of the Guardians.

Instead, they’ve lost the first two games and are now looking at getting swept tonight when Cleveland sends their ace Shane Bieber to the mound.

The arrogance of the White Sox is evident.

They assumed early on that the Guardians would be no threat to them.

And even after the Guardians took control of first, they banked on them collapsing.

As such, the White Sox are in a difficult position and are now longshots to even reach the postseason in any capacity.
