Toronto Blue Jays rookie starting pitcher Trey Yesavage began the season in the minor leagues with their Single-A Club, the Dunedin Blue Jays. Tonight, he’ll start Game 1 in the World Series against two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 2024 first-round draft pick out of East Carolina made his Major League debut on September 9, and with his first pitch in Game 1 will officially have more career starts in the playoffs than the regular season.
Yesavage has been equal to the moment every step of the way so far. In his regular season debut, he struck out nine in five innings while allowing one run to the Tampa Bay Rays. Facing off with Max Fried in Game 2 of the ALDS, he struck out 11 Yankees in 5 ⅓ scoreless innings against the Yankees in his first playoff start.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. At 22 years and 88 days old, Yesavage is the second-youngest pitcher in World Series history to start Game 1 of the Fall Classic, with Ralph Branca of the 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers still holding the record at 21 years and 267 days. With that being said, can you name the pitchers to start Game 1 of every World Series since 1996 can you name in seven minutes?
Good luck!
