Happy 37th birthday to four-time All-Star, three-time World Series champion and 2014 World Series MVP, Madison Bumgarner!
Drafted 10th-overall by the San Francisco Giants in the 2007 MLB Draft, the Hickory, North Carolina native made his MLB debut with 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball with four strikeouts against the San Diego Padres in 2009.
In 2010 he earned himself a regular spot in the starting rotation, going 7-6 with a 3.00 ERA in 18 starts in 2010. He contributed to his first World Series ring that season, pitching eight scoreless innings in Game 5 against the Texas Rangers to bring them within a win of their World Series title since moving to San Francisco.
He’d earn himself a reputation as one of the most feared big-game pitchers over his time in the Bay Area. His most famous performance came in 2014, when he gave the Giants five innings in Game 7 just three days after pitching a complete game shutout in Game 5 of the World Series. His final line from that Fall Classic was absurd, allowing just a single run in 21 total innings to claim World Series MVP honors.
Bumgarner spent 15 seasons in MLB, spending four seasons in Arizona from 2020-23 before retiring. He finished his career with a 134-124 record in 355 starts, racking up 2,070 strikeouts with a 3.47 ERA.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many World Series MVPs can you name in eight minutes?
