Guardians fans were delirious when Brayan Rocchio hit a two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to close out the victory. They continued to get good news Friday when All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez was on the field taking ground balls. Ramirez has been out for a month after having surgery to repair a left hamate injury.
He is expected back shortly after the July 14 All-Star Game. However, the fact that he was taking ground balls and preparing for a return means that his recovery is going well and that he will be returning to the Cleveland lineup.
The Guardians have won two games in a row and four of their last six games. They will clearly have a much more potent lineup when Ramirez is able to return to the Cleveland lineup.
While he was not having his best year prior to the injury, he is always a threat when he comes to bat in a late-inning situations because of his previous success and overall experience. Ramirez is slashing .239/.339/.418 with 10 home runs and 33 runs batted in.
The Guardians have been counting on Angel Martinez and Kyle Manzardo this season. Martinez has a team-leading 11 home runs and 33 runs batted in while Manzardo had 10 home runs and 29 RBI.
