A little more than a month after he used a homophobic slur during a Cincinnati Reds broadcast, Thom Brennaman has resigned from his job with the Reds and Fox Sports Ohio, according to Evan Millward of WCPO.
“My family and I have decided that I am going to step away from my role as the television voice of the Cincinnati Reds,” Brennaman wrote to WCPO. “I would like to thank the Reds, Reds fans and the LGBTQ Community for the incredible support and grace they have shown my family and me.“
Brennaman was with the Reds for 14 seasons and has been suspended since Aug. 19 for his comments. The veteran broadcaster has been with Fox Sports for the past 27 years, covering mostly baseball and football. After the use of a slur on air, he also was later removed from Fox's NFL broadcasts.
Brennaman was a part of Fox's NFL announcer lineup since it started televising the league in 1994. He was part of the third announcer team last season, alongside Chris Spielman and Shannon Spake.
The 57-year-old apologized for his comments during a Reds broadcast, but it was ridiculed and didn't seem sincere as he continued to call the game in the midst of his apology.
