Three players to watch during White Sox spring training

With 222 losses over the last two seasons, the Chicago White Sox have not given fans much reason to cheer since their previous playoff appearance in 2021.

After adding catcher Kyle Teel and outfielder Braden Montgomery by trading pitcher Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox, the White Sox got a much-needed boost to their farm system which is now one of the best in the MLB.

While the expectations will be low in 2025, here are three White Sox players to keep an eye on during spring training.

Kyle Teel, catcher

2024 MiLB stats: .288/.386/.433, 13 home runs and 78 RBI in 112 games played

One of the main pieces the White Sox got in return for Crochet this offseason, Teel could be one of the next big offensive threats at his position.

In two minor league seasons, Teel has slashed .301/.404/.444 with 15 home runs, 100 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 138 games. The 23-year-old made it to Triple-A last season and won't have much competition in the way blocking him from the MLB.

With a smooth stroke from the left side and an advanced feel at the plate, Teel has the potential to be a mainstay in the White Sox lineup for the next decade.

Luis Robert Jr., outfielder

2024 MLB stats: .224/.278/.379, 14 home runs, 35 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 100 games played

In his fifth season as a member of the White Sox, Robert Jr. struggled to replicate his 2023 All-Star season in 2024.

The 27-year-old struggled to get on base and went from franchise cornerstone to potential trade candidate as the season progressed.

With the White Sox not expected to be contenders for a couple of years, the hope is that Robert Jr. will rebound and generate some interest from other teams to continue the rebuild in Chicago.

Noah Schultz, pitcher

2024 MiLB stats: 0-4, 2.24 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 115 strikeouts in 88.1 innings pitched.

Standing six-foot-nine, Schultz is an imposing force on the pitchers' mound and one of the top pitching prospects in baseball.

Possessing a filthy slider to go with a plus-fastball, the left-hander posted a 2.24 ERA while managing to strike out 115 batters in only 88.1 innings pitched last season.

Like Teel, Schultz won't have much competition in front of him to block him from the majors, but with the team still years away he could see another year in the minors to keep his service time clock from starting.
