Riley Greene is in his fourth major-league season with the Detroit Tigers since making his debut in June 2022 as a 21-year-old prospect.
Drafted fifth overall in the 2019 MLB Draft out of Paul J. Haggerty High School, he spent two seasons dominating the minors before his big-league call-up.
Greene has improved every year in MLB, culminating in a breakout 2024 season when he earned his first All-Star appearance. In 137 games, he smacked 24 home runs, drove in 74 runs and posted an .827 OPS—all career highs—powering Detroit to its first playoff berth since 2014.
His emergence as a star signals a bright future for the Tigers.
Ahead of Friday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians, the Tigers announced Greene had etched his name into franchise history.
The team wrote, “Riley Greene is the third Tiger in franchise history to reach 21 doubles, 21 homers, 69 RBI, and 42 extra-base hits by the All-Star Break. The others: Miguel Cabrera in 2010 and Hank Greenberg in 1935.”

Building on his breakout season, Greene has reached new peaks. Selected to his second consecutive All-Star Game Wednesday, he already has 21 home runs—three shy of his career high—by the All-Star break, signaling a significant power surge.
Over 86 games, he’s batting .292 with an .890 OPS, both well above the career bests he set in 2024. Thanks to his contributions, the Tigers sit 54–34 atop the AL Central—12.5 games clear of the second-place Guardians—and own the best record in the American League as they push toward postseason contention.
