Tigers Player Suffers Setback During Rehab Assignment

Despite selling off their two-time Cy Young Award winning pitcher Tarik Skubal at the August 3rd Trade Deadline, the Detroit Tigers are clawing their way back into both the American League (AL) Wild Card race and the AL Central division race.

The team is red hot after winning three straight series and are only 3.5 games back of the division lead.

The Tigers have missed a lot of key pieces during the season which has practically led to their disappointing first half.

One of those players being outfielder Wenceel Pérez.

Pérez is currently on the 60-day injured list for Detroit with a left orbital fracture, he has been out since June 17th.

Pérez begin a minor league rehab assignment with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens on Thursday. Unfortunately he is experiencing a setback and has been pulled from the game on Tuesday.

Pérez is getting more tests on his eye.

It remains unclear if Pérez will be able to return for the Tigers this season, but he was struggling during his rehab assignment.

In his 53 games for the Tigers this season, the 26-year-old was slashing .180/.246/.348, a .594 OPS, with seven home runs, 17 RBIs and 29 total hits. A far cry from his .738 OPS just a season ago.
