The Detroit Tigers were scheduled to send ace pitcher Tarik Skubal to the mound against Luis Severino of the Athletics for their game Tuesday night at Comerica Park at 6:40 p.m.
The day brought with it cloudy skies and rain in the Motor City and surrounding areas as fans wondered about whether Tuesday night's contest would start on time.
The Detroit Tigers took to X as they shared an update on the situation including a picture of the scene in downtown Detroit, which included a white tarp on the field.
"Today's game will begin in a delay due to forecasted inclement weather," the Tigers wrote on X.
"Updates will be provided when available."

News of the delay came five days after the Tigers played a double header against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Comerica Park last Thursday, which was split 1-1 between the two teams.
The Tigers are 49-30 on the season compared to 32-48 for the Athletics and have the best record in Major League Baseball, one game ahead of Shohei Ohtani and manager Dave Roberts' Los Angeles Dodgers.
Detroit experienced extreme heat over the weekend leading to an extreme heat warning in Wayne County, site of Detroit, along with neighboring Genessee, Oakland, and Macomb counties as the thermometer was expected to hit 94 degrees or higher with mostly cloudy skies and a 35 to 80 percent chance of precipitation expected throughout the night.
The Tigers have a 26-12 home record so far this season, significantly better than their 23-18 mark in road contests.
