Tigers SP Michael Pineda suffers fractured finger against Orioles

According to Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch, starting pitcher Michael Pineda suffered a fracture to his right middle finger Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles.

Pineda exited Saturday's game in the second inning after being hit in the right hand by a line drive off the bat of Orioles' third baseman Ramon Urias.

Pineda will undergo tests to reveal the extent of the damage, but a stint on the injured list is inevitable for the 33-year-old.

With the Tigers pitching staff already shorthanded, an IL stint for Pineda wouldn't be welcome news. Detroit is currently missing starters Casey Mize and Matt Manning, who have been out with injuries since April.

Mize has been dealing with a right elbow sprain and struggled in his most recent rehab start at Triple-A Toledo, giving up three runs in the first inning. Meanwhile, Manning is nearing a return from a shoulder injury suffered in mid-April, having made his second rehab start for Toledo on Friday, though he was limited to 60 pitches.

Pineda is in his first season with the Tigers, signing a one-year, $5.5 million deal this past offseason.

This season, Pineda is 1-2 with a 3.43 ERA in 21 innings pitched. He's allowed eight runs off 20 hits. Opponents are batting .250 against the nine-year veteran.
