Tigers' Spencer Turnbull on throwing no-hitter: 'The best night of my life'

Detroit Tigers pitcher Spencer Turnbull tossed a no-hitter in a 5-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old has been with the Tigers since 2018, but the 2021 campaign has been his best thus far. After Tuesday's win, Turnbull said it was the best night of his life.

"It is by far the best night of my life, most exciting and it's definitely kind of like one of those landmark stamps on my career up to this point," Turnbull said, according to ESPN.

Turnbull joins Joe Musgrove, Carlos Rodon, John Means and Wade Miley as the fifth pitcher to toss a no-hitter this season. The five no-hitters through May 18 match the 1917 season for the most in baseball history by that date.

Turnbull is also the first Tigers pitcher since Justin Verlander in May 2011 to throw a no-hitter for Detroit.

The Alabama native is 3-2 on the season with a 2.88 ERA, 0.961 WHIP and 31 strikeouts in 34.1 innings.
