Mariners' top prospect Jonny Farmelo, who is ranked No. 78 on MLB Pipeline's top 100 and No. 54 on Baseball America's top 100, is set to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks due to suffering a stress reaction in his rib, according to Mariners General Manager Justin Hollander.

Farmelo, 20, suffered the stress reaction in his rib from swinging a bat. This injury comes just a few weeks after returning from a torn ACL that occurred last June. He returned from his ACL injury on April 29 and began on a tear for the High-A Everett AquaSox. In 15 games for Everett, he batted .288 with five home runs, one triple, two doubles, and a .959 OPS.

The 20-year-old outfielder was selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. In 61 professional games since being drafted, which includes 46 with the Single-A Modesto Nuts in 2024, he's hit nine homers with 37 RBIs and has a slash line of .270/.387/.468 with an .855 OPS.

Hollander mentioned that the rehab process for Farmelo will be quite similar to Mariners outfielder/first baseman Luke Raley. Farmelo will be rehabbing at the team's complex in Peoria, Ariz.

Hollander has also reassured that his knee "feels great" and does not expect this to be a long-term situation for the Mariners' top prospect.
