Bryce Eldridge is looking to become the next great first baseman in San Francisco Giants history, following in the footsteps of Willie McCovey, Will Clark, Orlando Cepeda, J.T. Snow and Brandon Belt. But to join that list, Eldridge will first need to crack the big leagues, and according to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser, that day might be right around the corner.
Slusser recently told KNBR’s Brian Murphy and Markus Boucher that “(Eldridge) is certainly a candidate (to make the big-league roster out of spring training). If he has a good spring, and it looks like he's gonna ... if he continues on this path, I would certainly consider it.”
Slusser also told KNBR in the same report that “(Eldridge) carries himself like a big leaguer, he seems very unflappable.”
These words come on the heels of Eldridge telling KNBR on Friday that, “At some point this year, I wanna earn my way up (the majors) and force their hand... that's the main goal for me. I don't want to sit around in the minors. I want to be able to make an impact on the big-league team and on the city as soon as possible."
Eldridge, the 16th overall pick in the 2023 draft, ranks No. 24 overall in MLB.com’s 2025 Prospect Rankings. FanGraphs ranks him as the Giants' No. 1 overall prospect.
The 6-foot-7 first baseman and lefty power-hitter is a non-roster invitee at spring training camp. During the 2024 minor league season, Eldridge hit .291 with 23 homers, 92 RBIs and an .890 OPS.
Giants fans are eager to see Eldridge, 20, as their first baseman of the future, with the duties now currently held by LaMonte Wade Jr. and Wilmer Flores. In about one month, we will see if Eldridge joins that mix in San Francisco.
