In what started out as a tense altercation on Wednesday’s game, ended up being a hilarious moment as Torey Lovullo had one of the most memorable ejections the league has ever seen.
It wasn’t so much the call that led to it, but more so of what Arizona Diamondbacks head coach Torey Lovullo did after, where he took on their role and decided the umpires were to be the ones tossed from Wednesday’s game:

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Arizona held a two-run lead with two outs. Christian Koss, the runner for the Giants on first base, was interfered with by Jordan Lawlar on the play after Heliot Ramos hit a ground ball down the third-base line. Eugenio Suárez was able to get the throw off to first, but wasn’t in time as Ramos beat out the throw. After Koss and Lawlar ran into each other, Koss was on the ground, and the Snakes took advantage by tagging him out while he was down near second base. After further discussion, the umpire crew decided that Koss would receive second base due to the interference.

Diamondbacks head coach Torey Lovullo realized that the umpires made the right decision. Lovullo mentioned, “ It wasn’t adding up in the heat of the moment. I felt like they were just trying to cover themselves a little bit. But in reality there was obstruction called. I didn’t know how the third base umpire could be watching a fair-foul ball and then the throw get off and still see the obstruction, but he pointed to it and he had it. When I looked at them, nobody put their hands up and pointed obstruction. That’s why I thought they were were kind of inventing a call, but they got it right.” (Credit – Arizona Sports)
9/10 crashout.

The umpire crew might have gotten the call right, but it sure made for one legendary and hilarious major league moment.
