The Toronto Blue Jays made roster adjustments today ahead of their game against the Rockies, selecting the contract of infielder Buddy Kennedy and designating catcher Ali Sánchez for assignment. With this move, the club keeps its 40-man roster at full capacity as it continues to fine-tune its lineup for the final stretch of the season.

Buddy Kennedy Joins the Big League Roster

Buddy Kennedy, 26, now has a chance to make an impact with Toronto. Originally drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2017, Kennedy brings infield versatility and a solid Triple-A track record. In 2025 with Triple-A Buffalo, Kennedy posted a .207 batting average, five RBI, eight runs scored and in 16 games. Known for his defensive reliability and contact hitting, he could provide needed depth at second and third base.

Kennedy previously appeared in 58 MLB games, tallying a .193 batting average with two home runs and 19 RBI. While those numbers don’t jump off the page, his recent minor league performance suggests he’s trending upward.

Ali Sánchez Designated for Assignment

To make room for Kennedy, the Blue Jays DFA’d Ali Sánchez, a 28-year-old catcher who joined the organization in the offseason. Sánchez spent most of 2025 at Triple-A Buffalo, where he slashed .279/.347/.419 over 54 games. In eight games with Toronto he went 5-21.

By designating Sánchez, the team risks losing him to waivers, though it’s possible he clears and remains in the organization.
