Touki Toussaint and 3 Homers Lead White Sox to 6-4 Win Over Royals

The Chicago White Sox offense picked up where it left off in Tuesday's heartbreaking loss. Sox hitters belted three homers and pounded out 14 hits in Wednesday's victory over the Kansas City Royals. Touki Toussaint put together a quality start, and the always-shaky relief crew held the lead.

The South Siders opened the scoring in the fourth when Gavin Sheets drove in Andrew Vaughn with a double. Vaughn singled and advanced to second on Yoan Moncada's ground out to third.

Getting The Job Done

White Sox starter Touki Toussaint pitched six innings of two-run baseball, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out six. The two runs he surrendered came off the bat of Nelson Velazquez, who launched a two-run homer in the fourth. Velazquez, who homered in every game of the series, gave Kansas City a one-run advantage at the time.

Toussaint retired the last seven batters he faced after the homer, and the Pale Hose retook the lead.

In the sixth, Andrew Vaughn and Yoan Moncada hit back-to-back homers to put the Sox ahead by two. Vaughn's two-run homer scored Luis Robert Jr., who reached base with a one-out double. Moncada and Vaughn have homered in consecutive games.

Kansas City Insurance

Oscar Colas added Chicago's third homer of the game, a solo blast in the seventh.

Aaron Bummer surrendered a two-run homer to pinch-hitter Edward Olivares in the eighth, bringing the Royals to within one. However, the White Sox came up with a ninth-inning insurance run when Andrew Benintendi's base hit plated Korey Lee.

Lee and Elvis Andrus had back-to-back two-out singles to put runners on the corners. Andrus had a 4-for-5 night. Bryan Shaw recorded the final three outs for the save and locked down a win for Toussaint, and the White Sox avoided a sweep.

Garrett Crochet started his rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham.

Tim Anderson was a late scratch due to neck stiffness.

After Thursday's off day, the White Sox will travel to Detroit to play the Tigers in a three-game series. Mike Clevinger will likely pitch the opener, but Chicago has not made an official announcement. Reese Olson will take the mound for Detroit. First pitch is at 5:40 PM CT and the game will air on NBC Sports Chicago.
