TRANSACTION: Braves option Forrest Wall to AAA Gwinnett; recall OF Lucas Williams
USA TODAY Sports

The other, and much less noticed, transaction today for the Atlanta Braves was a shuffle of the backup outfield. The Braves have optioned Forrest Wall to AAA Gwinnett, replacing him with OF Lucas Williams.

Wall, 27, was originally a 1st round pick out of high school in 2014 by the Colorado Rockies and played more than 800 minor league games for four different organizations before finally making it to MLB.

Atlanta used him as a pinch runner in a close 9th inning against Milwaukee (he stole two bases on two pitches) and a defensive replacement, but he never got a start. He did get his first career hit, however, appearing late in Atlanta's 21-3 blowout of the Mets on Saturday.

Replacing him is Lucas Williams. Originally a 3rd round pick in 2015 by the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta claimed him off of waivers after he was DFA'd by the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this season. Williams has appeared in 141 career games across three seasons, most recently getting 4 games in 2023 with the Dodgers, where he went 1-10 with three strikeouts and a stolen base.

He can play multiple infield and outfield positions, with career starts at 1B, 2B, SS, LF and CF in his career, as well as one inning pitched in relief.
