Trea Turner Takes Accountability For Phillies' Offensive Woes

The Philadelphia Phillies finished 19th in runs scored this season, and the offensive woes played a major role in the team underachieving.

Despite Bryce Harper being an All-Star and Kyle Schwarber hitting 45 home runs, the offense just could not establish itself as a consistant, dominant force. While those two showed up, the other stars did not get the job done. Trea Turner and his $300 million contract are a big part of the problem. Turner knows he needs to be better, and is wearing the blame for the team's lackluster offense.

"Me," Turner said when asked why the offensive production for the team was down, per NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark. "It's that simple"

"I've got a lot of work to do," he added. "Kind of just go over everything and just figure out as much as I can and find answers, see what I did bad. I think this year is the biggest question mark for me offensively in a long time. I've got to figure that out and I definitely have a lot of work to do there, and I'll do it.

Turner hit .242 with an OPS below .700 this year. It was the worst he's looked at the plate since his first 108 games with the Phillies, prior to the standing ovation that got him on a roll in 2023. Before that ovation he had a .656 OPS on the season. Ever since then, he has looked much better, posting a .807 OPS and being named an All-Star in 2024 and winning a batting title last year.

Before joining the Phillies, Turner had an .842 OPS. Going into this season, he had a .798 OPS. He had an .810 OPS in his last two seasons. His numbers are certainly down, but that is to be expected as he gets older. The problem is that the Phillies are stuck with him until he's 40.

Turner can still be a great player, as he proved in 2024 and 2025. However, the version of him the Phillies got this year is unacceptable.
