Twins Accomplish Feat Only Achieved Five Times in Franchise History

Three weeks ago, the Minnesota Twins looked like one of the biggest disappointments in Major League Baseball. The club wasn't struggling because of injury, either. They had no excuse.

Call it cold-weather blues. Because since the calendar turned to May, no team in the sport has been hotter.

The Twins won their 11th straight game on Thursday, knocking off the Baltimore Orioles (speaking of struggling teams), 4-0. The 11-game winning streak is the team's longest since, well, only since last year. But it's still a feat the franchise has accomplished only four other times in modern-era history.

Other than this season and last, the Twins had only won 11, or more, games in a row during the 2006, 2003, 1991 and 1980 seasons. The only two teams that did not make the postseason were the 1980 and 2024 Twins teams.

Last year's Minnesota bunch saw its winning streak stopped at 12 games. This year's Twins will seek to match that streak on Friday against against the Milwaukee Brewers on the road.

For good measure, the winningest team in franchise history was the 1991 squad. They won 15 straight games over a two-and-a-half-week stretch from June 1 to June 16, starting with a win over the Kansas City Royals before Thursday's opponent, the Orioles, snapped the streak.

The Twins went on to the win the 1991 World Series, the second in franchise history and still the most recent by a Twins Cities-based team in the four major sports.
