Minnesota Twins All-Star center fielder Byron Buxton exited Tuesday night’s game against the Athletics after appearing to aggravate his lingering right hip issue.

Buxton’s injury came in the seventh inning when he reached down while attempting to field a ball in center field. The 32-year-old immediately appeared uncomfortable before leaving the game.

The injury update was shared by @TalkinBaseball_ on X, which posted video of Buxton’s exit after he reached down for the ball. The report provides the initial visual account of the incident, while the Twins’ postgame evaluation will determine the severity of the setback.

Buxton entered Tuesday’s game batting .254/.321/.515 with 25 home runs and 46 RBIs across 92 games this season. His departure came during a difficult stretch for Minnesota, which fell 4-2 to the Athletics.

The injury is particularly concerning because Buxton has already dealt with the same right hip problem multiple times this season. He spent time on the injured list in July before returning, only to have the issue flare up again later that month.

Buxton was activated again on Aug. 13 after receiving treatment for the hip, making Tuesday’s setback another potential complication for a Twins team trying to stay in the postseason race.

Minnesota entered Tuesday 64-69, leaving the Twins 5.5 games behind the AL Central lead and 2.5 games back of the final AL Wild Card position. Losing Buxton for any extended period would further complicate their attempt to close that gap.

The Twins are expected to evaluate Buxton’s hip before determining whether another injured-list stint is necessary. For now, the focus will be on the severity of the latest aggravation and whether he can avoid another extended absence.
