Twins inform two coaches they won't be working games this season

The Major League Baseball season begins this week with round two of spring training at teams home facilities, but two Minnesota Twins coaches won't be joining the team.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Twins have informed bullpen coach Bob McClure, 68, and major league coach Bill Evers, 66, that they won't be working games this year due to health and safety concerns because of the coronavirus. The organization says they'll still be paid.

The two Twins coaches likely won't be the only ones forced to not coach this season... many coaches around the league are over the age of 60.

McClure was set to make his Twins debut as the new bullpen coach after Jeremy Hefner was hired by the New York Mets. McClure's role will be filled by Pete Maki, who is the current minor-league pitching coordinator.

Evers will be in his second season with the organization, but the Twins did not announce who will be taking his spot once the season begins. Both coaches will work in an advisory role throughout this year.
