Twins Make Royce Lewis Announcement, 3 Other Roster Moves

The position player portion of the Minnesota Twins' roster has been ravaged by injuries in 2025, leading to a 15-20 start that is good for fourth place in the AL Central as of May 5.

Among the early injuries were third baseman and former first-round pick Royce Lewis, utility man Willi Castro, outfielder Matt Wallner and injury replacement Luke Keaschall, who was off to a  record-breaking start before hitting the IL.

Having said all of that, the Twins finally announced some good news on the injury front on May 5.

"We have made the following roster moves," the Twins relayed on X, with a graphic noting that both Lewis and Castro are being "reinstated from [the] 10-day injured list."

To free up room for the injury returnees, Minnesota has "optioned" utility man Mickey Gasper and infielder Edouard Julien to Triple-A St. Paul.

Both Gasper and Julien had batting averages that were under .200, at .176 and .198, respectively. Although Julien did record 2 home runs and 8 RBI during his 29 appearances this season.

The Twins will be happy to get back Lewis and Castro either way.

Lewis has clubbed 35 home runs and 104 RBI over the past two years combined (including playoffs). He has yet to take the field for a regular season outing in 2025, but will hope to bounce back from his .233 batting average last season, which was down from .309 in 2023.

Castro is coming off a career year that earned him his first ever MLB All-Star honors. The campaign included 12 home runs, 60 RBI, 14 steals and a .247 batting average.

Castro was batting .227 with an OPS of just .655 in 2025 before his injury, with 1 home run, 5 RBI and 1 stolen base.
