Twins manager Rocco Baldelli leaving team for birth of child

Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli plans to leave the team Sunday to return home for the birth of his child, a daughter, he told reporters before Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, according to the Star Tribune

"The plan is for Allie to be at the hospital, and we are going to have a baby," Baldelli said. "That is all going to come together very quickly tonight and tomorrow. There's nothing better than this, and I'm incredibly excited."

Veteran coach Bill Evers will fill in for Baldelli, who might miss a four-game series that starts Monday night against Cleveland.

Baldelli has been manager of the Twins since 2019. He is 195-162 in three seasons at the helm, but Minnesota is in the midst of its worst season under Baldelli with a 58-77 record.
