The Los Angeles Dodgers finalized their trade with the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend to acquire Tyler Glasnow and Manuel Margot in exchange for Ryan Pepiot and Jonny DeLuca.

Several days passed from when the trade was first reported to the date of completion. There was some thought that stemmed from the Dodgers not being particularly keen on acquiring Margot, but it was due to needing to reach an agreement with Glasnow on a contract extension.

The right-hander joins a Dodgers starting rotation in need of help but has some injury history concerns to go along with intriguing upside and potential.

Moreover, the trade represents a homecoming for Glasnow, who grew up in Santa Clarita. The Southern California native thanked the Rays organization in a post on Instagram and also expressed his excitement over fulfilling a dream of pitching for the Dodgers.

Glasnow’s trade to the Dodgers was celebrated by FOCO through the release of a ‘welcome’ bobblehead.

The 30-year-old went 30-27 with a 3.89 ERA, 3.58 FIP and 1.21 WHIP in 127 games (88 starts) over parts of eight seasons with the Rays. He made just 14 starts in 2021 before undergoing season-ending right elbow surgery and missed the start of this year because of an oblique strain.

However, Glasnow did remain healthy upon getting activated off the injured list as he set career highs with 21 starts and 150 innings pitched.

Details of Tyler Glasnow’s contract extension

The Dodgers signed Glasnow to a five-year, $136.5 million contract extension that reportedly included converting a portion of his 2024 salary into a signing bonus.

Glasnow then is due to receive $30 million each season from 2025-2027, and the Dodgers hold a $30 million team option for 2028. Should they decline it, that becomes a player option for Glasnow at $21.5 million.
