Philadelphia Phillies fans were furious with umpire Phil Cuzzi over some of his calls in Monday night’s game.

The Phillies lost 3-1 to the San Francisco Giants in their game at Oracle Park. There were a few bad calls during the eighth inning made by Cuzzi, who was the homeplate umpire in the game.

In the top of the eighth inning, Bryce Harper was batting with a runner on first with nobody out. Cuzzi called the first two pitches against him strikes even though they were out of the zone.

Harper ended up grounding out in the at-bat, and the Phillies stranded Kyle Schwarber at second.

In the bottom of the 8th, Orion Kerkering was pitching to Matt Chapman with a runner on first. He threw three consecutive 2-strike pitches that were in the zone. Cuzzi called all three pitches balls.

Thanks to receiving the benefit on the calls, Chapman’s at-bat was extended and the count went full. He ended up singling to right and playing a key role in a 2-run rally to help his Giants go up 3-1, which ended up as the final score.

You see those missed calls and can understand why Phillies fans were upset.
