RIVERSIDE, Calif. — May 7, 2025 — Undefeated top welterweight contender Raul Curiel (15-0-1, 13 KOs) has officially joined forces with world-renowned trainer Robert García at the Robert García Boxing Academy (RGBA) in Moreno Valley, California, as he continues his pursuit of a world title.
The 29-year-old Curiel, born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and now fighting out of Riverside, California, is one of boxing’s brightest rising stars. A decorated amateur and 2016 Olympian for Team Mexico, Curiel turned pro on a Canelo Álvarez undercard in 2017 and has since earned his place among the top contenders at 147 pounds.
Over the years, Curiel has captured multiple regional belts, including the NABF Welterweight Championship, and has built a reputation as a fan favorite with a crowd-pleasing style. His most notable performances include a thrilling Fight of the Year candidate against Alexis Rocha, and a devastating knockout of veteran Brad Solomon.
Now aligned with Robert García, a former Trainer of the Year who has guided multiple fighters to world championships, Curiel enters a new phase in his career.
“I feel very happy with this new stage in my sports career, now representing RGBA and Espinoza Boxing Club,” said Curiel. “It is definitely another level of training and sparring. I have gotten along very well with everyone in the gym, and with the whole team of trainers. We are working hard. And we are extremely excited for our next fight, which I am sure I will win.”
Garcia is eager to begin work with Curiel. “Curiel is a great kid with a lot of potential, plus he’s friends with most of my fighters in my gym,” said Garcia. “He was also a teammate in the 2016 Olympics with Misael Rodriguez and Lindolfo Delgado so he fits perfect at RGBA. He knows he’s not very far from fighting for a world title so he knows how important it is for the whole team to work very hard. He has RGBA, his manager Frank Espinoza and Golden Boy Promotions behind him so it can’t get any better. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this kid.”
Manager Frank Espinoza Sr., CEO of Espinoza Boxing, feels the change is a good move for the future champion. “I believe Robert Garcia is one of the top trainers in the world, and I really think he’s a good fit for Raul,” said Espinoza. “We’re very thankful to Freddie [Roach] for all he’s done. They did great work together, but Raul wanted to get a breath of fresh air, so he will be with Robert at RGBA in Moreno Valley. We look forward to Robert and Golden Boy Promotions making Raul a world champion.”
Curiel is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, the powerhouse led by Oscar De La Hoya, and will return to the ring this summer in a soon-to-be-announced blockbuster event as he aims to crash the world title picture.
