The Toronto Blue Jays need a few relief prospects to progress, and they’ve got just that from Hunter Gregory.
Selected in the eighth round of the 2021 draft, Gregory made his debut with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays after the draft, posting a 13.50 ERA and an 8.63 FIP in six innings pitched, not a great start to his professional career. The 2022 season with the High-A Vancouver Canadians didn’t go much better, posting a 7.24 ERA and a 3.60 FIP in 32.1 innings pitched, only appearing in 10 games as an injury caused him to miss July, August, and September.
Gregory attended the Arizona Fall League in 2022 due to missing so much time, where he had less-than-ideal results in his 12 innings pitched. The 2023 season was better for Gregory, posting a 4.34 ERA and a 4.04 FIP in 56 innings pitched in High-A, making 11 starts in his 24 appearances. It’s worth noting he struck out 25.9% of the batters he faced, slightly down from his 27.6 K% the season prior.
In 2024, Gregory reached the upper-minors for the first time in his career, pitching for the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. By this point, Gregory had become a full-time relief pitcher, starting just two of the 43 games he pitched in. Overall, he finished with a 5.54 ERA and a 3.82 FIP, with a 26.7 K% and an 11.1 BB%.
Gregory looks like a new pitcher in 2025. Still with the Fisher Cats, the 26-year-old right-handed pitcher has a 0.56 ERA and a 2.25 FIP in 16 innings pitched, with a 31.8 K% and a 10.6 BB%. Of pitchers in the organization with 10 or more innings pitched, Gregory’s K% ranks 11th, as does his K-BB% of 21.2%.

The righty may have become a full-time reliever, but he still has a starter’s pitch mix. He features a four-seam fastball, cutter, slider, and a changeup.
With how well Gregory is pitching this season, expect him to earn a promotion to Triple-A sooner rather than later. If he continues to pitch well from there, perhaps he gets a look with the Blue Jays at some point in 2025 or 2026.
