The Toronto Blue Jays needed a prospect to come out of nowhere, and they may have gotten just that with Yeuni Muñoz.
During the 2021 International Free Agency, the Blue Jays signed Muñoz to a signing bonus of $315,000. He made his professional debut later that year with the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays as a 17-year-old, slashing .260/.363/.387 with a home run in 182 plate appearances for a 116 wRC+.
Muñoz moved stateside for the 2022 season, playing with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays. However, he only appeared in nine games and earned 28 plate appearances, slashing .318/.464/.545 with a home run that season. The 2023 season was also spent with the FCL Jays, where he slashed .229/.292/.344 with a home run in 106 plate appearances.
His 2024 season was injury-filled. Starting the season with the Dunedin Blue Jays in April, he was placed on the 7-day Injured List early in the month. After returning in early June, Muñoz remained on the roster until a serious injury in an early July game that required him to leave the game on a stretcher. Thankfully, he was discharged the next day and returned to action about three weeks later.
Overall, Muñoz played just 34 games between his rehab assignment and Single-A, slashing .179/.307/.292 with two home runs in 127 plate appearances for a 187 wRC+.
The 21-year-old outfielder has finally broken out this season, though. In 71 plate appearances with the Dunedin Blue Jays, he’s hit a career-high five home runs and is slashing .323/.408/.645. On top of being tied for the most home runs in the Blue Jays’ minor league system, Muñoz had only hit five home runs in his career before this season. His wRC+ of 187 is the highest of any Blue Jays minor leaguer with a minimum of 45 plate appearances.

Unfortunately, the injury bug hit Muñoz again in 2025. After hitting a home run in April 27’s game, Muñoz hit a groundout to end the top of the eighth. During the bottom half of the inning, he was pulled from the game and was placed on the 7-day Injured List on April 29.
It’s rather unfortunate, as Muñoz has broken out. While his strikeout rate remains high (29.6%), Muñoz has filled out his 6’1” frame and has started to hit for more power. Hopefully, this injury is short-term and he can remain healthy, as the Jays really need a win in terms of their development.
