Veteran RHP Carson Fulmer Thankful to Halos for Opportunity to Return to MLB
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels season ended on a positive note (all things considered)  after a tough year that saw them miss out on the postseason once again. The team took two of three against the division rival Oakland Athletics, and the team now enters the offseason feeling maybe just a little better about themselves.

While it wasn’t the season anyone hoped it would be, they did have some nice moments along the way. One of those came in the season finale last weekend, when veteran pitcher Carson Fulmer took the mound for the team.

After spending a good portion of the season out of baseball, Fulmer was reminded of what it was like to take a major league mound. He worked five scoreless innings against Oakland and helped the team get the victory.

“It means the world to me,” Fulmer said of the opportunity the Angels gave him. “I was on the couch three months ago, and debating whether I was going to play again or not. It definitely means a lot. This is big for my career, big for my family.”

Per The OC Register

Fulmer last pitched in the big leagues in 2021, so this obviously means a lot to him. He wanted a chance to redeem himself around the league, and the Angels provided that for him.

He appeared in three games for the Halos this season, posting an ERA of 2.70. According to then-Angels manager Phil Nevin — whose option was not picked up for the 2024 season — Fulmer wasn’t supposed to go five innings but was pitching well, so they decided to let him keep going.

Nevin spoke about the moment for Fulmer, and the team as a whole.

“That was a really cool deal today,” Nevin said of Fulmer getting the victory.

Per The OC Register

Nobody knows what will happen with Fulmer for next season, but he showed that he could be effective in the few games he saw this season. Maybe he gets another chance with the Angels, and if he does, it will give him another chance to live out his dream.
