The Toronto Blue Jays' World Series title drought will continue for at least one more year. That's after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and company failed to stop the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2025 edition of the Fall Classic despite being in a great position to raise the crown. On Saturday night, the Blue Jays blew a three-run lead in Game 7 of the World Series, as they lost to Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers via extra innings, 5-4.

Following the loss, Guerrero was seen letting his emotions out. As the Dodgers celebrated their successful World Series championship defense on the field, Guerrero was in the dugout looking emotional and wiping his tears.

There's no explanation needed for Guerrero's feelings. It was indeed a painful way for Toronto to lose its chance to take home the World Series title. The Blue Jays battled back from a 2-1 series deficit by winning Game 4 and Game 5 in Los Angeles to take command of a 3-2 series advantage, with Game 6 and Game 7 both scheduled to be played at Rogers Centre in Toronto. But the Blue Jays lost Game 6, 3-1, and wasted another opportunity to close it out in Game 7, as the Dodgers came away with a 5-4 victory in the final game of the series.

A hurting Bo Bichette put the Blue Jays ahead early with a three-run blast in the third inning. The Dodgers scored the next two runs of the contest before Andres Gimenez's RBI double in the sixth inning put the Blue Jays ahead by two runs, 4-2. But again, Los Angeles refused to go down. Solo home runs by Max Muncy and Miguel Rojas tied the game at 4-4. In the 11th inning, Will Smith hit the go-ahead home run that the Blue Jays ultimately failed to answer.

Guerrero hit a double in the bottom of the 11th frame to put a man on base for Toronto before a sacrifice bunt from Isiah Kiner-Falefa moved Guerrero to third base. Addison Barger then drew a walk from Dodgers star pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto before Alejandro Kirk grounded into a double play to end the game, as the Blue Jays fell short of their mission to win the franchise's first World Series title since 1993.

Guerrero went 10-for-30 in the 2025 World Series with two home runs, eight walks and three RBIs. Overall in the 2025 postseason, he hit .397/.494/.795.
